Insulation in road construction, with flapor from Flatz
You will already be familiar with flapor for thermally insulating homes. But this lightweight insulation material is increasingly also being used in road construction: It is employed wherever the ground conditions are tough.
Low weight coupled with high load-bearing capacity: With a bulk density of 20 kg/m³, expanded polystyrene can withstand a load of 3 tonnes per m². But at the same time the white insulation material weighs just 1/100th of conventional ground materials. This makes flapor ideal for constructing road embankments, backfilling bridge abutments or stabilizing slopes and car parks.
In the case of less stable soils, for example in river landscapes such as the Rhine Valley, it has previously been difficult to create piled embankments. Replacing the heavy ground materials in these areas significantly reduces the load on the soil beneath. There is no longer any subsidence.
As flapor is completely neutral in biological terms and does not have any influence on groundwater or bodies of water, flapor can also be used without any issues in ecologically sensitive areas.
